The city-owned stadium had been flooded by the
pounding rains of earlier in the week.
Work crews brought pumps to suck the water from
the field into the parking lot. By midnight Wednesday, the field had
been “de-watered,” said a spokesman for Mayor Jerry Sanders.
The game pits the Naval Academy vs. San Diego
State, with kickoff set for 5 p.m.
The rain had already disrupted a pregame activity
in downtown San Diego. The outdoor battle of the bands between Navy
and San Diego State was cancelled Tuesday night.
The bands will be at the game.
On Thursday morning, city crews were lining the
field with hash marks and end-zone designations.
